activities and to make friendships. We Welcome anyone who is a Christian and
those who are not Christians as guests of members.
The Surrey Christian singles Committee is run by a group of volunteers and therefore we do not charge a subscription fee but we sometimes may make a profit on an event to give money to charity and also to cover our administration costs such as web hosting fees.
To get further details of any of the events below or to find out more about the group, please send an E-mail or phone the organiser for the event. If you get no response from the organiser, please send an E-mail to surrey@sesinglechristians.org

Park.
How to get
there.
Park in the Broomfield Hill Wood car park by 12.50pm at the latest and walk to the Isabella Plantation, arriving at the plantation entrance gate (where we will meet) by 1.15pm. We will enter the plantation at 1.30pm promptly. Please allow sufficient time to find a car parking place and to walk from the car park to the plantation entrance, as this is a very popular time to visit the plantation. The Isabella Plantation is a very considerable distance from any of the entrance gates to Richmond Park.
The Isabella Plantation is an ornamental woodland garden, full of exotic plants. In 1831, Lord
Sidmouth, the park deputy ranger, fenced off 42 acres. He planted oak, beech and sweet chestnut trees, as a crop for timber and gave the area the name it has
today.
The present garden of clearings, ponds and streams was established from the 1950s onwards. The garden has 15 known varieties of deciduous azalea and houses the national collection of 50 Kurume
Azaelas. There are also 50 different species of rhododendron and 120 hybrids, as well as camellias, magnolias and bluebells. From late April, the azaleas and rhododendrons are in flower. In summer, there are displays of Japanese irises and day lilies.
After the walk, we will visit Pembroke Lodge, for optional tea / coffee and cakes.
Pembroke Lodge is open 10am - 5.30pm in the summer, 10am - dusk in the winter. This is a beautiful Georgian mansion set in 13 acres of landscaped grounds (inside Richmond Park, on the north side) with a spectacular view.

Saturday 4th August - Jane Austin's house near Alton.
We
will meet at 12.30 at the Greyfriar pub in Chawton (photo right) - see http://www.thegreyfriar.co.uk/
for a pub meal if you want.
For those who want to go directly to Jane Austen's house we will meet at 2.00 p.m. at the entrance - see http://www.jane-austens-house-museum.org.uk/
Jane Austen is one of the most popular and important novelists that England has ever produced. The house at Chawton is where she spent the last eight years of her life. It is of international importance as the place where she did the majority of her mature writing, but at the same time retains the charm of a village home. A 17th century house, it tells the story of Jane Austen and her family.

Revised at this house: Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility & Northanger Abbey.
Written entirely at this house: Mansfield Park, Emma, Persuasion
From a literary perspective the House provides an insight into the life of a writer of her time - a life that is to this day slightly enigmatic.
After going round the house there is the option for tea at a tea shop outside the house. For those who want it will be possible to do a 4.5 mile afternoon / evening walk.
